UPCOMING SEMINAR

Seminar Dates: June 5-8, 2025
Location: Dakota State University

HOBY South Dakota is in the planning phase for the 2025 Leadership Seminar. Registration opening soon. We look forward to seeing you!

For the safety of our attendees, HOBY South Dakota has decided to transition our 2021 seminar to a virtual format. We believe that all our staff and attendees deserve to experience our meaningful HOBY programming without risking their health or the health of those around them.

OUR 2025 SEMINAR HOST

Since its inception in 1958, HOBY has carried out its mission “to seek out, recognize and develop leadership potential commencing with high school sophomores, and to encourage and prepare the next generation of civic and corporate leadership for America’s future.”

During the seminar there will be panels on topics including entrepreneurship, diversity, education, volunteerism, and the media. Each panel will have 3-5 speakers who are leaders and experts in that particular topic. They will speak for 5 minutes each. The remaining time will be for ambassadors to ask questions, discuss the subject with peers and form opinions about the information presented.

A key component of the South Dakota Leadership Seminar is practicing leadership skills. Leadership Labs take place throughout the weekend and include a variety of hands-on and fun activities.

For many years, the South Dakota Leadership Seminar has been promoting community service as part of our program. Every year we attempt to do an off-site, hands-on service project in the local community hosting our seminar.

The event will also include social opportunities. All the hard work, learning, and participation in thoughtful discussions would not be complete without activities dedicated solely to fun!

Every ambassador is provided a T-shirt that they will be required to wear during the seminar. Ambassadors should bring a sweater or sweatshirt for meeting rooms as they may be cold. Clothing should be consistent with what would be appropriate for any school function. For the off-site Service Learning Project, ambassadors will want to wear clothes they won’t mind getting dirty. Lastly, Ambassadors should bring “Sunday’s Best” clothes for the closing ceremonies on Sunday.

HOBY pays for virtually everything at the seminar. The only expenses you may incur are for souvenirs from the “HOBY Store.” The store will be open during the seminar to purchase mementos and souvenirs from your HOBY experience.
