Since its inception in 1958, HOBY has carried out its mission “to seek out, recognize and develop leadership potential commencing with high school sophomores, and to encourage and prepare the next generation of civic and corporate leadership for America’s future.” During annual four-day seminars, HOBY Ambassadors experience lectures from local leaders, participate in workshops to develop civic imagination and critical thinking skills, and engage in a community service project–all designed to prove the incredible power of combined dedication and to teach them that they are empowered to make a positive impact.

The curriculum for this Leadership Seminar is based on HOBY’s vision to motivate and empower individuals to make a positive difference within our global society. HOBY believes youth represent the future leaders of the world – leaders in business, education, government, or any field you choose – because they are someone who will make a difference. By developing and understanding effective and compassionate leadership, we hope they will be able to realize their leadership potential, and take action in their homes, schools, workplace, communities and the world.
The HOBY experience will help develop leadership from three perspectives:
- Personal Leadership
- Group Leadership
- Leadership for Society
